One might look at this drink and think of a sunset. The grenadine layered on the bottom, mixing with the yellow ever so slightly, it just screams “Sunset colors.” It even has notes of coconut from the Malibu rum. I, however, was raised by a writer/true crime podcaster. So of course my first thought upon making a reddish drink with rum in it was “Red Rum” as a reference to “The Shining”
And that’s the story of how this refreshing cocktail got its name.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz Rum
- 1.5 oz Orange juice
- Splash of Malibu rum
- Club soda
- Grenadine
- Cherry for garnish
Instructions:
- Add orange juice and the rums to a shaker with ice
- Shake to combine
- Strain mixture into a glass with ice
- Top with club soda
- Layer grenadine on bottom
- Top with the cherry
The hardest part of this drink is layering the grenadine. You have to use a barspoon to control the flow in order to get the sunset appearance you see in the photo above.
I hope you enjoy this refreshing tropical drink.
Cheers!
